Sabai is here to help you customize sustainable furniture that will live and grow with you. There are a few choices you'll need to consider when deciding on a piece. This article goes over the basics of customizing your furniture, and as always, if you have any questions our customer experience team is ready to help.
Choosing by Collection
Essential Collection
The pitch and proportions of a luxury sofa — for maximum comfort. Expandable, repairable, and durable, our Essential Collection offers sustainability along with configurability. Wide arms that invite lounging and perching alike. Available in Recycled Velvet and Upcycled Poly.
Cushion Firmness: Our Essential Collection seat cushion foam density is 1828, 1.8lb/cubic ft and the 28 represents the firmness. Our seat cushions are on the firmer side to ensure that the cushions retain their shape over time and the fabric does not puddle too much. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being very firm, they're around a 7 but soften to about 5 over a good break-in period.
Elevate Collection
With a low profile and curved arms to rest your head, this collection exudes sophistication and it's the perfect solution to elevate your space. Experience the perfect balance of comfort with its deep seat and high back. Meticulously crafted, The Elevate Collection blends the ease of the modern farmhouse vibe with the comfort you desire. Available in Recycled Velvet and Upcycled Poly.
Our Elevate 96" Sofas and Sectionals can also be turned into a sleeper sofa with our Mattress Topper! A queen-sized mattress topper that covers the seat cushion and seat platforms to make a comfortable sleeping surface. The mattress topper is 3” Certified Organic Dunlop Latex in Extra Firm with a removable Organic Cotton cover. *Note that if you have a sectional, you will need to purchase a bench cushion to create the sleeper sofa.

Cushion Firmness: Our Evergreen Collection foam density is 1828, 1.8lb/cubic ft and the 28 represents the firmness, however, there is a lot of blown fiber that makes the sitting experience have a softer, sink-in feel on the seat cushions, we rate this as a 5/10 on a firmness scale, where 10 is the firmest. The back padding for the Evergreen is in the upholstery rather than having back pillows, and is medium firm.

Chairs & Ottomans
Ottomans - Each of our seating collections has an ottoman to pair with any piece of furniture. The ottomans for our Essential and Elevate collections can be used with a sofa or loveseat to create a sectional and our Evergreen Ottoman has a sleek circular design. Storage - Our Essential and Evergreen Collection each have a storage bench/ottoman option (launched March 2024) offering additional and sleek storage space!
Chairs - We offer a vierty of chairs throughout our collections. Our Essential Chair offers sloped arms and three pillows for a cozy lounge experience, and our Essential Club Chair is a perfect pairing with the rest of our Essential Collection, with a larger seat. Loveseats & Sofas
Loveseats - Each of our collections offers a loveseat, perfect for filling a smaller space with a comfy place to sit and relax. Our Essential Loveseats can be used with our 5-seat or 6-seat expansion kits to create 5-seat or 6-seat Essential Corner Sectionals. Launched in July 2023, our Evergreen and Elevate loveseats offer a deeper seat and a bit more length. You can view the dimensions of our loveseats here.
Daybed - Launched in June 2024m our Elevate Daybed is a great addition for any nooks or smaller spaces that need a spot to lay!
Sofas - Each of our collections also offers a sofa, if you're looking for something a bit bigger to take a nap on or lounge with friends. Our Essential sofa can be turned into a sectional using our sofa-to-sectional kit and our Elevate 96" sofa can be turned into a sleeper sofa, we also offer a smaller version, the Elevate 86" Sofa for more compact spaces. Our Evergreen Sofa has a full slipcover for easy cleaning and is available in our new Hemp fabric. It also provides the deepest seat that we offer. You can find the dimensions for our sofas here.
Sectionals
Essential Loveseat Sectional - Our Essential Collection offers a loveseat sectional, for those that need a bit more sitting space, but don't have the room for a full sofa/sectional. Our sectionals can be configured to have the chaise on either side depending on how you choose to assemble, and can also switch the sides easily at a later date. Essential Sectional - Our Essential Sectional sits three and includes a chaise that can be assembled on either side and changed at a later date. By attaching one of our ottoman bases to the frame of our Essential Sofa, then adding a chaise cushion, you build our Essential Sectional. You can also expand up on your Essential Sectional to create a corner sectional with a chaise, or other items from our Secret Menu. You can view the dimensions of our Essential Sectional here.
Essential Corner Sectionals - The Essential Collections also offers larger sectionals available in 5-Seat, 6-Seat & 7-Seat Corner Sectionals. Our 6-Seat Corner Sectional can be configured to have the longer side on either side, and can also be changed if needed. You can view the dimensions of our corner sectionals here.
Elevate Sectional - Our newest Sectional, launched in July 2023, is in the Elevate Collection. The chaise lounge can be configured on either side of our Elevate Sectional and changed at a later date along with your space. Elevate Corner Sectionals - Adding to our Elevate Collection as of April 2024, we now offer larger corner sectionals as well. Available in a 99" Corner Sectional, Reversible L Corner Sectional and 126" Corner Sectional. You may view the full dimensions of our corner sectionals here.
Choosing Your Fabric
Our sustainable fabrics are available in a variety of colors and are meant to withstand the test of time with ease of care in mind. Our Essential and Elevate Collections are available in Recycled Velvet and Upcycled Poly, and our Evergreen Collection is available in our Recycled Velvet and 100% Natural Hemp. We recommend picking up some of our swatches to get a feel and look at the fabrics in person before deciding, you find them here.
Recycled Velvet
Made with 100% post-consumer recycled water bottles. It is both GRS and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. This fabric is made in China as that is where the majority of recycling occurs. The water bottles go through a cleaning process before being processed into fabric to remove any harmful chemicals. They're washed in a high-temperature detergent water, separated by material type, and in the case of our velvet the PET and similar plastics are chopped up, melted down, and made into thin strands to make the fabric. Our Recycled Velvet has a double-rub count of 30,000.
We recommend our velvet for pets, the fabric is easy to lint roll and remove hair. While our velvet is scratch-resistant, like anything in life it's not completely scratchproof, so we also recommend keeping your cat's nails trimmed.
Available in - Indigo, Moss, Seafoam, Dusty Rose, Mustard, Ash, Amber & Chocolate.
Cleaning & Care: Our Recycled Velvet fabric can be cleaned with gentle household cleaning products. If possible, place a clean towel behind the fabric to absorb any excess moisture. We recommend spraying and dabbing all the way to the seams to avoid any water rings from drying. This fabric can also be machine washed on delicate with cold water and then air dried or tumble dried with no heat.
Upcycled Poly
Sabai's Upcycled Poly fabric is made from 100% Olefin, a byproduct of refining petroleum. The yarn is inherently stain-repellent and therefore has not had any chemical treatments, and can be cleaned with household cleaning products (including bleach) without being damaged. While synthetic, this fabric actually performs better than many natural fibers on the Higg index as it does not require any land or water to be produced (including in the dyeing process). Our upcycled poly fabric is Greenguard Gold certified and has a double-rub count of 75,000. Made in the USA.
Available in - Oat, Farro, Moon, Shadow & Midnight
Cleaning & Care: Our Upcycled Poly fabric is inherently stain-resistant and can be cleaned with household cleaning products, including a bleach solution, without being damaged. Most general house cleaners will work, as long as they are NOT solvent-based (most are not). We recommend spraying and dabbing all the way to the seams to avoid any water rings from drying. Alternatively, you can also hand wash with cold water and air dry - no heat. Do not iron our Upcycled Poly! Learn more about our cleaning & care here.
Natural Hemp
Our sustainably sourced, 100% Natural Hemp launched along with our Evergreen Collection in July 2023. We currently offer the hemp in a slipcover for our Evergreen and Essential pieces, allowing for extremely easy cleaning. Our Natural Hemp has a rub-count of 12,000.
Available in - Fir, Sand, Fog, Thistle & Natural.
Cleaning & Care: Machine wash on gentle with cold water then tumble dry on low. Do not bleach and wash only with similar colors. Lay flat to air dry, do not tumble dry to avoid the possibility of shrinkage or fraying. Ironing and steaming are okay on low heat to reduce wrinkles, be sure not to leave the heat on one spot for too long and move continuously.
Choosing Your Legs
Our Essential Collection offers wood legs made from domestically sourced maple, with a love VOC stain. Our natural legs have lower VOCs because there's just a clear coat of finishing. Our metal legs are made of non-toxic solid aluminum with zero VOC.
Available in Dark Brown, Natural, Cylinder & Metal.
Choosing Your Cushion Style
Our Essential Collection also has two cushion styles, individual or loveseat/bench. When choosing between the two, it's mostly a personal preference. Our individual cushions can be flipped and fluffed more easily, while our bench and loveseat cushions provide an even better napping experience. All of our cushions and covers are also available on their own as part of our Repair Don't Replace Program, so refreshing your piece or changing your style is simple and quick.
